A volcanic archipelago off Sicily: chic little Panarea, the night-time eruptions of Stromboli, the thermal mud of Vulcano and the green slopes of Salina.
Seven volcanic islands scattered in the Tyrrhenian Sea, living geology rather than postcard scenery. By day it is deep-water anchoring off black-sand coves and pumice cliffs; by night it is Stromboli's Sciara del Fuoco glowing red over the horizon and Panarea's terraces filling with the Med's best-dressed crowd. No marina city, no fixed jetty life — this is anchor-out cruising with more drama per mile than almost anywhere in the Mediterranean.

Signature anchorages
No marina city — this is anchor-out cruising, chosen by wind and by scene.
- Cala Junco, PanareaA volcanic-rock amphitheatre near the prehistoric village of San Pietro; mixed sand/rock and mud, 5–15m, very well sheltered — and the midday tender-and-swim scene of the archipelago.
- Ficogrande, StromboliCalm daytime anchorage off the black-sand beach, a short walk from the village — the staging point before the after-dark repositioning.
- Off the Sciara del Fuoco, StromboliNo draft or shelter figures — this is a drift-and-hold vantage for the eruption show, conditions-dependent, no permit needed to watch from the water.
- Ginostra, StromboliThe volcano's tiny, car-free west-side hamlet; a useful lee when Ficogrande is exposed, and quieter still.
- Porto di Levante / Porto di Ponente, VulcanoTwin anchorages on either side of the promontory, chosen by wind; good holding in mud, 3–8m. Levante is also the ferry quay — Ponente the private-yacht side. The Laghetto di Fanghi mud pool is a short walk from the landing.
- Rinella & Pollara, SalinaRinella: a fishing-village cove with rock-cut boat shelters. Pollara: the collapsed-crater bay and "Il Postino" cove — iconic, more exposed, day-use.
- Lipari TownMarina Lunga for an alongside berth with water and power; the practical overnight, restaurants and provisioning a walk from the quay.

Hotel Raya, Panarea
Founded by painter Paolo Tilche and Myriam Beltrami as their own island retreat, it grew into the archipelago's original dolce-vita hotel — Madonna and Armani among the names associated with Panarea's summer scene. The terrace still runs the latest dance set in the islands.
Bridge Sushi Bar
A pink-staircase rooftop sushi lounge on Panarea's port, facing Stromboli and the offshore rocks — the pre-Raya stop for a harbour that fills with yacht tenders every summer evening.
Lisca Bianca & Pollara
Antonioni shot the vanishing-point sequence of "L'Avventura" (1960) on the bare islet of Lisca Bianca off Panarea; three decades later, "Il Postino" (1994) found its black-sand cove at Pollara, on Salina.

Cross to Vulcano, anchor at Porto di Levante or Ponente, and walk to the Laghetto di Fanghi mud baths.
Vulcano to Lipari
Short hop to Lipari Town; alongside at Marina Lunga, walk the citadel and cathedral, restock.
Lipari to Salina
Cruise to Salina; anchor off Rinella or Pollara, dinner at Signum or Da Alfredo in Malfa.
Salina to Panarea
Reposition to Panarea; Cala Junco by day, the harbour for Bridge Sushi Bar and Hotel Raya's terrace after dark.
Panarea, at leisure
Tender to the Lisca Bianca and Basiluzzo islets; swim and dive the volcanic reefs.
Panarea to Stromboli
Day anchorage at Ficogrande; reposition off the Sciara del Fuoco after dark for the eruption show.

Milazzo to Vulcano — Porto di Levante
Cross and anchor on the ferry-quay side; the Laghetto di Fanghi mud baths a short walk from the landing.
Vulcano — Porto di Ponente
Shift to the private-yacht side of the promontory if the wind turns; a second day to explore the island properly.
Vulcano to Lipari
Alongside at Marina Lunga; the citadel and cathedral, and a full restock before the more remote islands.
Lipari to Salina — Rinella
The fishing-village cove with its rock-cut boat shelters; dinner at Da Alfredo in Lingua for the granita.
Salina — Pollara
Round to the collapsed-crater bay made famous by Il Postino — a day-use call, more exposed, best in settled weather.
Salina to Panarea
